Crack open "Pandora's Box" and inside you'll find film actress Louise Brooks. A native of Cherryvale, Kansas, Brooks' shimmering beauty, keen intellect and iconic Dutchboy bob planted her firmly in the vortex that was the Flapper Era. From 1925 to 1938 she appeared in 24 films and was one of the few actors of the era to make a successful transition from Silents to sound. She was the first person in London to dance the Charleston, and appeared on countless magazine covers, postcards and posters but there was more to Brooks' style than a love for flapper dresses, tutus, sailor shorts and fingerless gloves - she was a pioneer to her very core. Her journey to stardom, which began at age 15 with a stint as a Denishawn dancer, then a Ziegfeld girl, then a film star epitomized the 20th Century woman's first steps toward autonomy and inspired a comic strip and a stage play. Her most important role wasn't in Hollywood, though, it was in Berlin, where she made "Pandora's Box" and "Diary of a Lost Girl" with German film giant G.W. Pabst. In those two films, both released in 1929, Brooks pioneered a new, naturalist acting style, which is still the standard for film today. Who better epitomizes the restless icon?

Scott Fitzgerald once referred to her as the epitome of the 1920s, but it wasn't until years later that Lucille LeSueur of San Antonio, Texas hit her stride as a movie star known for her powerful portrayals of strong, flawed, deeply human women in such films as Rain, The Women, Mildred Pierce, The Damned Don't Cry, and Johnny Guitar. The American Film Institute dubbed her the Tenth Greatest Female Star of All Time. Yet all Oscar-winning Joan Crawford wanted to do was dance, and she broke into the movies as a dancer. Here, we take a look at her at the height of her powers; flawlessly coifed, groomed and dressed, her hair carefully pinned, this Crawford already understands the power of persona as well as meticulous attention to detail; she has become more than an actress, she is a star and the first star to understand that she is also a product. Her understanding of the power of branding, and her meticulousness would come back to haunt her later, but it's important to understand just how hard Crawford worked to free herself from the poverty of her youth and how terrified she was of returning to it. As filmmaker Peter Fitzgerald's Crawford documentary "The Ultimate Movie Star" explains, that's why she left nothing to chance.

Elegant. Stunning. Stylish. With designer friends like Elsa Schiaparelli and Coco Chanel, dressing to the nines was a relatively simple task for Gloria Swanson off-screen. Onscreen, her silent-movie era costumes were almost insane studies in luxury. Silks, satins and brocades combined with ermine, beading and ostrich and peacock feathers to create what was then a surreal vision of glamour - exactly the kind of fantasy movie audiences loved - which laid the visual groundwork for what we now think of when we think of "Hollywood Glamour." Not only a fashion pioneer, Swanson was also one of the very first public figures to extol the virtues of a healthy diet and she remained an outspoken advocate - and compelling advertisement for - a macrobiotic diet washed down with lots of water until her death. Thirty-six years after her first film, Swanson scored another triumph in 1950 in Billy Wilder's noir classic Sunset Boulevard, where she played an aging silent movie star trying to come to terms with her obscurity. No question; Elizabeth Taylor is one of the greatest Hollywood style icons ever, consistently thrilling her fans both on and off screen. Born in London to American parents, Taylor owes her career partly to WW2 as her family returned home to the States to avoid the coming war. They settled in Los Angeles, where the stunning child with the violet eyes, pale skin and jet-black hair was discovered by Hollywood. She became a superstar with the 1950 release of Butterfield 8, in which she lent new life to the satin slip. Here, we see her as she begins her ascent from actress to screen diva. Butterfield 8 not only won her her first Best Actress Oscar and cemented her reputation as a skilled actress as well as a great beauty, it also marked her metamorphosis from ingenue to Brunette Bombshell. Her eyes, hair, figure and innate understanding of her physical appeal precluded turning back. Liz would go on to become the first actress to earn $1 million for her role in Cleopatra, become famous for serial marriages at a time when such a thing was truly scandalous, and to cultivate a legendary love for jewelry. She still owns a 50-carat pearl formerly owned by Mary I of England, and has a 70-carat, pear-shaped diamond given to her by Richard Burton named aptly enough, The Taylor-Burton Diamond. But what sets this icon apart more than her enormous jewels is her sense of humor and her enormous heart. Despite numerous health issues, Taylor continues to work tirelessly for a variety of charitable causes and turned in a hilarious performance as Fred Flintstone's mother-in-law in the live-action Flintstones movie.

First of all I think Cane and Lilly belong together. In every day life people have kids out of wedlock all the time.. There is nothing wrong with that. The other thing is if Cane doesnt have any feelings for Chloe why would he give her something that runs in his family. That ring is meant for Lilly not for Chloe. I dont like Chloe for taking Cane away from Lilly. Never liked Chloe to begin with. I can't wait for Chloe to have her baby. If I remember the episode where Chloe took advantage of Cane she already knew she was pregnant. Thats why she had a pregnancy test in glove box that night. She is so vindictive. I definately dont watch Young and the Restless for her thats for sure. She will get whats coming to her later. Karma comes back and she will get it 3 times worse.. As far as Jack and Sharon goes.. They dont really belong together.. Nick and Sharon belong together.. Noah came back thats great. Of coures he doesnt look like the same character he was before. Its amazing how the actors change as the months go on. Kids are the quickest thing to grow up on daytime soaps.. Young and the Restless has been the best soap around since I have been watching it in the 70's..

the storyline of Chloe Vs Lily is a excellent exciting page turner. Just about everyone watching wants to rip Chloe's heart out through her big mouth. Too bad she doesnt have one. Please dont drag this story out. We all want to see Lily get back with Cane and we want Chloe to stay on the show just so we can beat her down on a daily basis. Good acting. She is hated more than Jill when she was messing around with Phillip so many years ago. If you need it,I have a stake to run through Chloe's black heart. One more thing, I loved how Jill warned Chloe she would break her neck if she ever called her 'mother-something' again. Funny.
Why is everyone saying cane is the father? The DNA results did not say he was the father at all. It simply said they cannot rule him out as the father. If it had proven he was the father it would of been 99.9% positive, which it wasnt.

I remember when i was younger my mom watched this show all the time and i hated it because it was "boring" to me. i am only 18 now and i am addicted. i record it every single day and do not miss one episode.
at first i did not like sabrina because i wanted nikki & victor to get back together but now that she is gone i miss her and i want her back. i could not believe that she was already gone. im glad david chow is gone he was an jerk. haha.
as for victoria i am so glad that she realized that sabrina was a good person and was able to talk to her before she died.

I watched Y&R from the first day while folding diapers. It's the only one I watch (record). Interesting to see the stars age in real time. Jack's character is the best. You love him, you hate him, you love him again. He keeps on getting better. Love Paul and Michael too. Keep on keepin on!
OK, just finished seeing the events of 888 (Aug-08-2008). My immediate reaction is "OMG, that's so unfair!" re: stupid Lilly getting all upset. She must realize that she has a good man in Cain! Is she gonna throw all that goodness away over one unintentional mistake? If so, then she is stupidity personified! Having said that, this is such a good example of why getting drunk is nothing but super-stupid, in any situation, on any day or night. Especially if you live in GC, lol.
I am very intrigued over what's going on with Victor, the mystery surrounding him over this last week in and of itself is drawing me in. I could go on forever about Victor so I won't, except to say I love him. :)

I absolutely LOVE LOVE Victor. He is so handsome macho, and sexy. I love to see him in love. I have always wanted him with Nikki, but she was just acting like a scumbag about David. I agree with Adam it is her fault if she had not been trying so hard to get back at Victor she could have realized that David was a looser, and that Victor was the man for her. I hope she drinks again, it will serve her right, the I want Victor to rescue her and fall in love again. I did like Sabrina I just hated how they kissed all of the time, but she made him happy. I wanted to say this to the many Y&R fans and that is this, Nikki needs to stop being so determined to be the bigger person in one-uping Victor. I think instead of getting Nikki and Victor getting back together should actually have her and Paul get together. I am not sorry Sabrina died but I am sorry she went like that. Sabrina was to all about her instead of thinking just may be that other people have problems too. The world didn't revolve around her.
Daniel and Amber I do like very much of a couple. They do need to bring them back together. Please don't put Colleen and Daniel together.
I like the pairing of Adam and Heather. The writers did do good there.
As for Victor's children they need to act like adults and not children. Adam is a jerk when it comes to his "family". He didn't grow up with brothers and sisters and to treat Nick and Victoria like this leaves something to be desired.
As for Cane/Lily/Chloe we need to stop this because of the simple fact.....Cane and Lily deserve some happiness. C'mon lets get serious here Chloe was trouble from the start. Cane and Lily had bad relationships in their pasts and now these 2 are geniunely happy and then to throw Chloe in is a big mistake. She is horrible. I never liked her character to begin with.

I have been watching Y&R since its debut and luv it. I am rather looking forward to a possible Victor and Nikki reunion, they are so strong together, the couple that loves to fight, great entertainment. Gloria and Jeffery and Michael and Lauren, luv them too. Michael has some of the best lines I have ever heard, he's great. Looking forward to the storyline with his "Dad". Kane and Lily, well, they're ok, but now that Chloe is in the mix (even tho I don't particuarily like her) it makes for exciting adventures of what will Chloe do next. I hope Daniel and Amber find their way back 2gether, they have great chemistry and I never really was much of an Amber fan, but... Sorry about the passing of David and Sabrina, but it was just not in the cards. Am curious about the direction Nick, Phyllis, Sharon and Jack will be going? Jill needs a man, what about Brad? Adam and Heather sizzle... Keep up the great stories they really make my day end with anticipation of the next episode.
My sister and I started watching the Y&R when our sons were tiny and they are in their late 20's now! Yet Nikki, Victor, and Jack still own that show. I used to love to watch Katherine when she was "bad" and Jill has to remember to be more evil again! At the end of the day, I look forward to curling up and watching my recording of the Y&R as much as I used to love to watch it on my Beta Max!
I think that Amelia Heinle has the most beautiful cheekbones that I have ever seen in my life. However, would somebody please tell me...WHY WOULD Y&R KILL OFF SABRINA??????? WHAT A WEIRD MOVE!!!!! The show was getting so good. TOO BAD.
Victor and Nikki have always been the dynamic duo. But I think that when they decided to end Sabrina's role with Victor, this really made the show dull. The show is indeed winning the battle of the daytime wars, and the show is also getting younger as well as the new additions of characters, but now, since they have decided to end Sabrina, it really made it obvious that one day Victor and Nikki will get back together and this really makes me mad that Victor cannot be the " Charming Lady's Man" that he once was.
If you ask me, Victor should get back to the Dark Night style he once had and get back at Jack for the article, rebuild Newman Enterprises with Adam and make friends with Nick and bring Nick back to Newman, get back at Nikki for bringing David Chow into the family, and Jack should find out about the cream that Gloria killed the lady with. That should get the show back on track. Victor should apologize for his role in believing that Nick had something to do with the article, he should explain to Nick that he knows about the scam that Jack planned with Felipe', and the show will be more watchable.
I love these pics of Vicki. She looks beautiful. I love the show. I watch it with my mom and grandmother every day. Very sad to see Sabrina die though. She was a very sweet and positive character. However, great issue of Restless Style.
I am glad they finally killed off Sabrina. I mean she played the "sweet" girl but I mean I live in Quebec and even I couldn't stand her horrible french accent. As for David, im glad he's gone too. Two birds with one stone. Not bad. He was a horrible actor and and even worse character. He was sleezy and gross before his past was even known. Good riddence. Hopefully we will finally get to see some decent characters on the show. I can't wait for Michaels father. And Chloe. Gotta love her and hate her at the same time. Awsome actress. But they better keep Karen on as a fulltime character no matter what happens. If they get rid of her I might stop watching...after 25 years. She's a great character. I adore her as much as the new Victoria, even though I was skeptical about her to begin with. She had big shoes to fill and she did an amazing job. She never lost her backbone in the battle with the great VN.
Victoria looks gorgeous in these photos. I think you should consider giving her a makeover in the show to spice up her look a bit. I've been watching the show since the eighties when my mom used to watch it (I'm only 21 lol!) and I always view the character "Victoria" as the original person that was there and probably spicing up the current "Victoria's" look would help change my image/view. But I really like these photos.
Oh and could u give Devon a serious relationship with his girl friend Tatiana Ali so that he'd have a greater part to play in the show. I think there's a lot of room to add even more drama to the show through their relationship.
And I'm kinda glad Sabrina died because her relationship with Victor lacked something probably if her character were a bit of a stronger personality or more of that of a female executive it would have added a deeper dimension to her and Victor's relationship.
Last note is that I LOVE Y&R!!!!

I like Lily and Cane together please let them make it and get rid of crazy chloe. I can't stand her. I always had a feeling that David killed Jmin. I hope soon Victor will quit being stubborn and forgive Victoria and Nikki. When he was being mean to Nick at the hospital I just wanted Nick to hit him. This is the only soap opera that I watch and I've been watching it since I was in the 4th grade and I am now 30.

While it's true that Crawford ran on the fear of poverty and aging (and who doesn't) she was also constantly open to the possibility of a new adventure in every moment, which might help explain why her life was so filled with success, drama, pathos and ultimately - bitter and deep disappointments when fate provided life lessons of a less stellar variety in the limelight. We who were not chosen for the path of fame might choose to be grateful that our adversities can be weathered anonymously and enjoy our triumphs with a sense of personal and even secret joy.

I always thought Victoria (AM) was a strikingly pretty woman and these shots just prove that and shows how she can capture classic looks of former leading ladies in Hollywood. Great job to everyone that worked on this photo spread! One question though, why is Phyllis the fashion expert on the RS home page? Her expertise is designing websites.It would make a lot more sense (and believable) for Sharon to be the fashion expert fielding fashion questions since she worked in fashion and exemplifies great fashion style on the show. Would love to see Sharon on a future cover as well.

Hi! I grew up watching Y&R b/c my mother has been a fan since it debuted. Now, it's the only soap I watch regularly. Generational fans! I love the magazine, hate Jack's scheming, I want him to get what he deserves. I have a question, though. Years ago, didn't Victor have a vasectomy? I can't wait for Nikki to find out that Sabrina's pregnant because she knows that Victor can't father anymore-- why doesn't he remember that? What's up with that?

Victoria looks beautiful, am glad to see this side of her instead of the one we have been seeing the unforgiving, whinny Victoria, don't like her attitude lately. It is time for her to grow up and get over it. Thanks for sending us the refreshing side of Victoria she has such great potential to become an icon on the show. I would also love to see restless style on store shelves without the controversy from Jack though.

Hello, I would like to tell you that I love watching young & the restless everyday. If for someone reason I can't see Y&R on time I recorded it. It is awesome soap opera. This is the only soap I watch, the actors do such a great professional job; it seems so real what is going on in the Y&R. I think there should be a real restless style magazine that we can see in print. That we could read and see; what the Y&R reads an sees. That would be so cool. Victoria looks great on the cover. She looks like a model. What ever happens in the soap opra don't let the magazine go. It's great just like the Y&R. I am getting hook on that magazine. Ya are doing such a great & awesome job on the script of Y&R. Also I think Victoria is doing a great job on how she is acting against Sabrina (her so call bestfriend). Vicky is a great actress thumbs up to you Vicky keep up the good work girl. Oh yea I think Daniel and Amber should get back together. Take Care..

I wish that Jack would get Jabot back and Gloria needs to pay for what she did. If not she should ask for Jack's forgiveness and he just let her work there.

my hubby and i are retired.. and at twelve thirty each weekday we are glued to the tv and eat our lunch which we enjoy the delights of the show...it is now so interestintg and a little naughty but not filthy which is so needed nowadays... my hubby thinks victoria is just a beautiful young lady... and i get a big kick out of my hubbby how a workaholic plastic engineering manager who is retired is now hooked on this soap... he says he thinks it is filmed so professionaly and the actors are superb..

I like the black and white photos much better than the cover shot. Amelia Heinle does have sort of an ageless beauty. I do wish they'd lighten up her makeup in the day-to-day episodes, though.

Oh my goodness. Who could believe victoria has that style in here. I didn't. She has been kinda getting on my nerves lately, but this has helped me like her more & after yesterday's 7/15 eppisode, she seems to be forgiving Sabrina for the rediculous reason for not liking her. Nicki LOOOOves david & vicki & sabrina were best friends in italy. Get over it vicki.
