From the outside, it looks glamorous and glittery; fancy parties, exotic locales, hobnobbing with the rich and famous. But back at the office, it's still work and Restless Style is still a business and difficult decisions have to be made every day regarding what goes into the magazine and what doesn't.
And the battle usually comes down to Art vs. Commerce. Do we follow a higher calling and try to inform our readers as well as entertain them? Or do we pander to the lowest common denominator in all of us and create the print and online equivalent of a freeway pileup; titillating and awful, but you just have to look?
Driving this discussion at Restless Style are two opposing forces. On one hand, there's Phyllis Summers-Newman a successful internet consultant and businesswoman paired with Nick Newman, a distinguished, respected and successful scion from a prominent family; on the other, you have Jack Abbott, a failed politician and executive who, thanks to his own chronic duplicity, has been run out of almost every business, social and personal situation he's ever been in. Pair Abbott with Sharon Collins-Abbott, a Stepford Wife with no opinion of her own who blindly supports her scheming husband in every endeavor, and you've got the makings of a true farce.
Behind Mrs. Jack Abbott's back, RS staffers giggle as they whisper "I'll just die if I don't find that recipe," repeatedly, with a twitch, in reference to a scene in the original Stepford Wives movie where one of the wifebots short-circuits.
With Jack Abbott at the helm of any endeavor, Commerce need never worry - it will always win, and win big. With his hair-chewing child bride at his side, always ready to coo her undying and uncritical support no matter what, there is no check on Abbott's flights of fancy or folly.
He sees himself as a maverick, someone who doesn't play by the rules. That is certainly true; Abbott has always ignored the stodgy traditional ways of getting things done in business, unfortunately, more than once, he's also ignored the law as well the rules of basic human decency.

Abbott certainly wouldn't be the first media executive to turn the power of the press to his own advantage. He wouldn't even be the first media magnate to use his publishing holdings to bludgeon his enemies. But he might just be the first media exec to use innuendoes and smears to hurt rivals' loved ones. Last issue, Abbott did precisely that; unable to touch longtime rival Victor Newman directly, he used Newman's new wife, Sabrina Costelana-Newman to hurt his nemesis by proxy - an act of true cowardice if ever there was one.
In the process, a perfectly lovely human being who had nothing to do with any bad blood between Abbott and Newman was mercilessly dragged through the mud.
Additionally, Abbott opened the magazine not only to lawsuits from the families of Costelana and Newman but also from esteemed Art Historian Adrian Korbel, whose career could suffer irreparable damage thanks to Abbott's sleazy, last-minute story rewrite. In his haste to get any and all salacious details into the story, Abbott ignored basic concerns of accuracy and fairness and not only slandered Costelana-Newman's personal reputation, but by leaving Korbel's byline on the story, also compromised Korbel's professional reputation.
Costelana-Newman will never get the opportunity to defend her reputation. Tragically, she died from injuries suffered in a horrific car crash several weeks ago. Her new husband is said to be half-crazed with grief not only for his young wife, but also for their unborn son, who perished as well.
Doubtless, to Abbot the opportunity to further add to Victor Newman's grief is, as they say in New Orleans, lagniappe - an unexpected bonus. Common decency and good taste never stands a chance against a backstabbing snake who double-crosses his own partners to satisfy a long-standing vendetta against Victor Newman. In considering Jack Abbott, it's impossible to resist the temptation to refer to an ancient Greek axiom. It states "Those whom the gods wish to punish they first make powerful." Or, as we say in modern times, "What goes around..."

What I like most is the fact that you can see never ending love from most people who are together but then when they break-up instead of bringing someone else in they put people together who are only the current cast in most cases. They have seemed to run out of people to sleep with over and over again. They seem to sleep with each others wife or husband just to cause a break-up. This is what I don't like about the show.
It would be like me married 26 years getting a divorce every few years just to marry and divorce my husband and come crawling back and him taking me back, would never happen.
To cheat and marry someone else and come crawling back is so not like the real world. Who decided the town was so small and there are only a hand full of people in that town to marry? These people travel all over the world for business and fun, why not keep it real by them bringing in new people more often. They can die off or leave after learning what that town is all about that being what I would say is not style but strange.
I think that sharon and Nick belong together. They share a bond that Phylis should never hope to gain. Phylis should remember where she came from and how it was that she ended up with Nick in the first place. Was she really any different than sharon, afterall sharon was Nicks wife at the time. Nick I hope that your true love comes shinning through and I hope that the baby that sharon is carrying is yours. Jack doesn't really need a baby, not saying he would not love it, because I really believe that he would love it. It would be Sharons baby and I believe that he truly loves her. Fight for what you know to be right and get back with Sharon. You two are explosive and I love to see you interact with her.

Good heavens, I seen the episode today of Katherine's funeral and I was estatic to see Nina again...I have so missed her character on the show. I would love to see her brought back as a regular character again. As well as Drucilla and Tracy.
I have been watching this show since September 1973 and continue to love the characters and plot lines.
When time in reality comes that we lose Katherine, Jill, and Victor the show will forever be changed.
well i recently seen the segment of Cathrine Chancellor. Omg ! I followed that woman since I was a teenager in junior high. And to kill her off how dare the writers do that ? or is she dead. I dont know. I feel sad I actually cried. I think Kevin will be in trouble for looting her money. And Sharon is no innocent person either for having a quick romantic moment with nick in paris. Jack needs to bend a little and have compasion and get Victor to break down from being so stubborn. Love Jack Abbott--I always understand his reasoning, devilishly delivered by one talented actor! Victor deserves everything coming to him--he's such a jerk--except when he was with Sabrina---so looked forward to seeing them together for a very long time and then she was gone. Loved the write-up on Jack--it was written in Phyllis' "voice." Love Jack & Sharon together--she understands him. Love Gloria & Jeff & the veins popping out on Michael's forehead and his hilarious quips. What an incredible show!
For the record, I like Sharon because she is an imperfect person who owns her feelings and her life choices while she tries to learn from them like so many other regular people but so many of us can not relate to that right. I love Sharon and Nick together. Out of all of the soaps, they have really been together for a long time without a lot of breaks or other true loves in between you can see that their love is endless. You know when you go through things in your marriage they are only the business of the two people in the marriage. Which leads to the fact that Phyllis had no business in Sharon and Nick's problems. We can rewrite and justify this mistake all we want but the at the end of the day it was wrong. Sharon and Nick cheated on eachother, loved eachother, and were committed to eachother all at the same time. At the end of the day, Phyllis will receive her pay back and one day have to face the other woman just like Sharon did or vice versa for Nick because Sharon already paid her dues. She lost her daughter and her husband of 10 years. What has Phyllis ever really paid for? Oh yah when she ran over someone? oh no, when she tricked Danny and broke up him and Christen, not! oh no, it was time when she blackmailed Sharon and help cause Dru's death. Oh but no, she really got hers when she took a grieving father and husband from his first wife and child. You guys are right you should invite Phyllis to your homes, like Sharon did, to meet your husbands too? I would rather be friends with a snake...... (at least you know they bite) So ladies let's get off Sharon's back because at the end of the day Nick was married to Shaorn first and Phyllis will always be second no matter what. When he was with Sharon, she had his entire heart for a very long time. Now Nick's heart is divided into two parts his first family, Sharon and Noah, and his seond family Phyllis and Summer. So all that talk and acting out that Phyllis does just shows that she is more needy and jealous than Sharon will ever be. Look at how she has to attack Sharon in public print leaving out so many details about her own poor choices and lack of humankindness but so many people love the big mouth bullies of the world. I tell you what you keep Phyllis and Nick can too. Sharon is a great character that continues to grow and bring new fans to Y&R everyday. Sharon is like that!!! Shick forever!! Nick please wake up you're having a nightmare you're still married to Phyllis.
I have to say i agree with some of these comments so many people are quick to put down phyllis and i agree she has done some wrong things in the past but she has also gone to Jail as well. Sharon has always stood behind Jack no matter what it was that he did not once did she stand up to him and try and persuade him to do some of the things that he has done.
Jack and Victor are alot alike in some ways Jack does things and thinks he should get away with it. But when Victor does something wrong everyone feels he should pay for it.
Nick should branch out on his own Jack is too controlling to work with him as Nick has always wanted to get away from that.

I think Nick and Phyllis should stay together, they are great together and Sharon makes Jack a better person, keep them together, I like the compassionate Jack. Nikki and Victor should get back together and Adam should go. Get rid of Brad he sucks or make him nice again, he should be back with Jacks sister, they were a good couple.

It doesn't matter how many ONE NIGHT STANDS she has had. All that matters is that she has had them. Phyllis is not perfect, and neither is Sharon. Sharon could have gotten an STD from Brad and could have given it ot Jack. BE FAIR!
What Nick and Phyllis had was a sleeezy affair-not a love story. Having sex in a manure filled barn, a roach motel and a tiny county music closet have nothing to do with romance. Let's not forget that Phyl-lust had sex with 2 men in one day (Nick & Jack) and did not use any kind of STD protection resulted in her not knowing who was the real Father of baby Summer. It still has not been 100% proven that Nick is Summer's Father. It was so unfair for neither Nick or Phyllis to not take a few small steps that would result in safer sex. They both could have contracted an STD and given it to Sharon or Jack. I think it sends the wrong message to our viewer's that it's ok to have unprotected sex! Disgusting!!! BTW Phyllis has a much longer list of men than Sharon has. Sharon had two one-night stands, raped twice and date raped once. Doesn't sound like any of them were affairs to me!!! Sharon is a Princess compared to Phyllis!
Nick needs to stay with Phyllis and Sharon needs to move on to the next money making man. Everyone thinks that she is this goody two shoes who does nothing wrong, but she is just as wrong as Phyllis. Now Phyllis has done some very wrong things in her time on Y&R, but why does it have to stay that way? I like her taking the better side of herself and Nick brings that out in her. Chloe, Cain and Lily, OMG, THEY ARE GETTING ON MY NERVE!!!! Cain needs to leave Chloe and realize that people have babies out of wedlock all of the time and marriage is not going to make their situation better. Chloe slept with Billy. Billy is coming back to the show because Jack has to convince the rest of his family to sell their shares of stock in Jabot. So things will come out then. I just want them to hurry up and get on with it. Y&R is not usually this slow with their story line, but this baby thing is being drawn out too long. Cain and Lily deserve each other. I ABSOLUTELY HATE COLLEEN AND DANIEL TOGETHER. HOW DARE SHE DATE HER BESTFRIEND'S EX-HUSBAND. SHE IS JUST AS WRONG AS AMBER AND CORBELL. everybody wants to trash poor phyllis, lets not forget that little sharon is not as pure as driven snow as she pretends, did you forget about all the affairs that she had and the murder that she was involved in. as for as chole/kate thing what goes around comes around, comes around. the writers should make lily's character a stronger person than a wimpy teenager, give her some backbone. I ay it started in the long time follower of Y&R, I can honestly it started in the womb, and I am in my 30's now, can you just put me out of my misery and let Victor and Nikki live happily ever after. Also I grew up with Nick and Sharon (although not quite as fast),,, They should also get back together to overcome some more realtionship adversity..... As for Phyliss, I named my evil siamese cat after her years ago... so come on and return her to her true evil nature!!!

For one I agree that the article about Jack is dead on, what bothers me about it is that good old Phyllis is the one to write it, who is she to hang Jack out to dry, they are good friends. I also am a fan of Nick and Sharon, please let these two back together. The next Restless Style article should be about Chloe. When Nick decides to write a good article he should look into one on Catherine she is an great actress and would make a intersting article, or even Victoria what a great one that would be, just get Jack and Phyllis out of the way and lets see what Nick can do on his own.
I remember Chloe talking with someone on the phone about a Booty Call. Now that Billy is coming back, I do believe he was her Booty Call that day. I know understand when the pregnancy test came back as Cane being a possible candidate.
Publishing this article shows just how little business savvy and professionalism Nick and Phyllis have - also what a bunch of hypocrites they are. Phyllis is an ex-con who should be in jail for life for the things she has done. Jack may be ruthless but he is does know where to draw the line. Thanks Donna Ferris for your insights on the Chloe situation. I was starting to get a little frustrated because we all know that Chloe was preggers before she molested Cane. But I couldn't figure how she could fake the DNA test. If Billy is the real daddy, it would all make sense and be brilliant on YR's part.

I saw the show where Chloe was on the phone with "someone" and telling them she was pregnant and didn't do that any more. So there's a father out there for Chloe's baby and more story to be told. I have watche Y & R from day one. I am 61 years old and never miss it. Watching my soaps is my only vice so I plan to continue as long as I can. Glad to see Ashley will be returning also. That will make for more story mixes also. Love all the characters, almost feel like they are part of my life. Keep up the good work!

Oh yes. It has took long enough for someone to say something about that snake Jack Abbott. I think of all the men on the Y&R Victor is by far the strongest in self respect. do not get me wrong a well placed gotcha he can do two times better than Jack. However, I feel like the writers have jack just grabbing at straws. I really feel like his character at this time has hit a stand still. He seems to be stuck in the revolving circle of Jack and Victor and not really showing the family man he can be. I also feel like Sharron was a better match for Nick becsuse of the Chem. so to speak and Phyllis added a air of "what are they up to now?" when she was with Jack. Her character has also taken a back seat of late and needs to come forward.She is better has a good girl but come on we all no she is a fantastic bad girl only shelia can come close to her. and please get her off of ambers back, what now she has slunk down to torchering children. has for chloe, i can not stand the girls actting abilties. i feel like there is something lost between paper and film. the humanity is missing. we all new she would end up as canes wife because poor lilly cant catch a break. lilly is a strong actor and deserves to be shown in that light. instead the writers keep throwing her under the bus so all she does is cry. come on let the woman be a woman. give her ,her man and a child with a family. i feel she could really fill tyhe spot dru left open she really has the potental. fire chloe... i record my soaps and fastforward what ever scene she is in because i do not want to go to sleep waiting for her to pretend to no what she is doing.
If I remember correctly, sometime back before the Chloe/Cane fiasco, she found out she was pregnant. Then while sitting in her car, she was telling someone on the phone (could have been Billy) that she doesn't do "bootie call" anymore she was pregnant and she and the father were getting together. Later on Cane was at Indigo with a "mate" drinking, minding their own business. In walks Chloe and just invites herself to stay. She was drinking but had called ahead to let the bartender know not to give her real drinks. I heard her say that before she stradled Cane and that she put something in his drink. Now she either was in cahoots with his "mate" or she is just pure evil all on her own. I look at what she did to Cane, rape, if she had sex with him without his knowledge. She just set him up. But it will come out before too long and she will get hers. And I thought he was angry with Amber when he found out she lied to him. Whew, that will be a walk in the park compared to this.
I am not surprised that Mr and Mrs Newman would write article like this about Jack Abbott. Jack Abbott is strong man that knows what he is doing. Restless Style is lucky to have him and his beautiful Sharon running the magazine. Nick and Phyllis should give it up... Nicholas will always run to Victor for help!!!
I think it was silly for Nick to agree to the article. Sharon is the mother of his child and he cares about her why would he allow her to be described that way? Makes no sense....also how would Noah feel to read an article orchestrated by his dad and step mom that so negatively portrays his mom and step dad.

First of all Phyllis writing an article about Jack and Sharon was dumb. Phyllis is trying to brring Jack down and make him look like the bad guy. Jack does have issues dont get me wrong. But lets look at Phyllis for everthing she did in her past. Yes it take 2 to tango when it comes to sleeping around. But go figure Phyllis is no where innocent. She has done some messed up things herself. In this issue all she did was sink down to Jacks level. Forget about her showing whos the bigger person. Thats right what comes around goes around. I am sure she will get what is coming to her in time. As far as Lilly, Cane, Chloe(Kate). That whole thing will come and bite chloe later. I dont think Cane is the dad of chloe's unborn child. I remember an episode when Cane got drunk that before Chloe walked into the place she said something about getting herself baby daddy. she already knew she was pregnant before. For them to do a blood test cannot confirm or deny paternity of course we know that an amniocentesis is the true test during pregnancy. Cane and Lilly belong together. Victor did a good job kicking adam out and firing him. That was messed up what he did. To see Adams facial expression when he 1st saw Victor was pricelss. Hopefully Victor will take his kids back in his life one day. This is a soap opera one day it will happen. Nick and Sharon should get back together. Victor and Nikki will get back together eventually. That's all for now.
I can understand how Victor can be mourning, however to be that mean and ugle to his children is unreal. He needed to put Adam out of the house and business, because he is a "Money & Power craving fool". I think Nick & Sharon need to find their way back to each other,because they still love each other. There needs a DNA test for Summer as well as Cloe/Kate(a real one!!!), I feel it will come out that Jack is the father of Summer and Caine is not the father of Kates!!!There needs to be some stable couples on this show. If I were Sharon I would not have forgiven Jack for being out right mean just to sell magazines. What else would he stoop to sell them?. Today's show was awesome, except the way Vic looked at Nick and Vikki in a *as if looks could kill*. I hope he doesn't do the same to them as he did with Adam...that was so good. Teach him, that's right!
As for Chloe/Kate and Cane, I read something about a week or so ago, that Billy (Jills other son) is coming back and that he and Kate had a thing sometime back (personally I don't remember that) and the baby is his. And that's where the DNA comes in. No matter how Jill will look at it, she will still be related to the maids daughter! And then maybe Lily and Cane can get back together.
As for Jack/Sharon/Phyllis/Nick they need to get it together. Jack is getting even more evil than Vic is in different ways. And if he gets his foot in the door again at Jabot with Glo and Jeff, he'll just make a mess of it again. I would really love to see Nick and Phyllis make it a success and show Victor that he is capable. What Neil said today about that he learned from Victor about can't tell your kids how to run their lives...that's all Victor wants to do. If you don't do it his way, there is no other way. He doesn't have to be that way. There's too many families out there in the real world that really act that way. He needs to mellow out some when it come to his kids.
Lilly should move on with her life. The episode with Caine is over. She needs to realize it. Like it or not he is a married man. I hope she moves to LA and finds herself a wonderful man who wil make her very happy. Someone on the order of her father. She got over Daniel and fell in love with Caine. She can definitely move on from Caine and fall in love with someone else.
Caine is not good enough for Lilly. Anyone that gets so drunk out of his mind that someone else can take advantage of him in my opinion is not good husband material. Caine and Lilly are both immature. They both need to grow up. I don't think he will never find out that the baby Kate is carrying is not his.
I just love the story the "Restless Style" Come's out with. Can't wait to see the next one.

I Love Jack!!!! He really knows how to sell anything let alone magazines, and He always does exactly what it takes to be successful. I think that Sabrina had her nerve getting it on with her Best friends Dad. Victor and Sabrina were always going to be viewed as if Victor was robbing the cradle. Some other magazine would have wrote their story Victor needs a little humble pie. More importantly, I can not stand Phyllis she is just Jealous of Sharon and always will be because she knows that Nick really still Loves Sharon. GO VICTOR, GO!!!!!! Today's episode was CLASSIC!!! I loved every bit of it! Victor came back as I KNEW he would. The way how he put "Jr." in his place..........my only regret was that Victor didn't throw him in that dungeon he had years ago (LOL). Oh well, at least now "Jr." can go ahead and serve up that "Big Slurpe" thats waiting for him at the 7-Eleven. I'm also glad that he IMMEDIATELY re-instated Neil and put him as CEO!! I just hope that he doesn't put Nick and Victoria out of his life. Please let there be a reconciliation between the three of them.

Love the story! It definitely describes Jack Abbott to a "T"! He's just as ruthless as Victor (even though he might not admit it) and will do anything to get what he wants, whether it's ethical or not! Don't you just love to hate him? Classic!!!
