Actually, it's five "must-haves" for girls and five for guys, but there are a few things you can swap. Best of all, the time to buy is now, as most stores and sites are having killer sales!
Girls:
- Gladiator Sandals - High-heeled or flats, this is the "It" shoe of the summer (and probably into early fall). Best of all, you can find this look at every price, and we haven't seen a version yet that we didn't love. [search: Gladiator Sandals]
- The Boyfriend Blazer - The oversize sport coat is another "It" look for summer that will take you right into fall. Buy it new, "borrow" it from some guy you know, or scan your local thrift and vintage stores. Buy it roomy, roll up the sleeves, belt it, or leave it open, decorate it with vintage brooch or band pins. This is the kind of look we love most; it works with anything - jeans, leggings, skirts - and always looks great. [search: Boyfriend Blazer]
- Skintight Micro Mini - A supercool look but whether it's a skirt or a dress, watch where you're going - and how you're sitting. Great for a party or a date, not so great for school or work. Sit with your knees together or carefully crossed at all times. Also, this look has its limitations; it works best if you have long legs - and really nice underwear. If you drop something, consider it gone, unless you're really good at stooping - knees bent, both feet flat on the floor - and you're wearing really nice underwear. Be careful getting out of cars. If you want to dial it down a bit, pair your micro-mini with colored opaque tights. This look requires a real commitment. [search: Micro Mini]
- The Maxi - Sophisticated and incredibly versatile, these ankle-skimming dresses and skirts come in every color and print imaginable and are perfect for a romantic evening, a summer barbecue or just hanging out. Best of all, there are flattering versions for everyone! Perfect paired with heels or flats. Don't forget to take your new Boyfriend Blazer to ward off the evening chill. [search: Maxi Dress]
- The Statement Necklace - Big, chunky, exotic. Another trend with plenty of pow. Prices range from $20 to $200,000 and up. There's nothing dainty about this trend; it's all about big stones (fake or real) big beads (wood, glass or metal) big ornaments, big style! Look for Indian and African accents and keep the rest of your outfit simple - the Statement necklace says it all. [search: Ethnic Statement Necklace]
- Neon accessories - It's the Eighties all over again as neon returns in all its super-fun splendor! Try it in stages: Start with neon nails, lips and eyes. If you love what you see, grab some bracelets, rings and sunglasses. Still digging the dazzle? Check out neon Ts and tights. Trends like this are usually gone in a flash, but even when it's "out" a little neon will brighten up the grayest day.
Guys:
- Skinny Jeans - Fellas, unless you've been living under a rock, you already know that the five-sizes-too-big-jeans-hangin'-off-your-knees thing is over. Done. Hella-tired. What you might not know is that the new, skinny, fitted jeans are made to be rolled up, and beat up - even when you wear them with a sport jacket and a dress shirt. We're very in favor of clothes that can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.
- Madras - Another incredibly versatile fabric, madras, a plaid cotton usually sewn into patchwork and then made into trousers, swim trunks, Bermuda shorts and shirts is showing up all over. It's cool and comfortable and for some reason, it's considered perfectly acceptable for semi-dressy occasions. We're especially digging the nerd cool of the madras Bermuda and swim trunks. [search: Madras shorts]
- Buttoned Cotton Vest - The vest is a trend continuing right into Fall, so even if you're late on getting with it, it's worth checking out. A vest is a super-cool way to spark up a T-shirt and jeans, as well as a great way to take the starch out of a dress suit. We've seen them from $40 to $400, but thrift stores and vintage re-sellers are also great places to score this item.
- Neon - You'd have to be pretty outgoing to deal with the looks you'll get in a pair of say, neon-colored trousers, but anyone can (and should) handle the compliments you'll gather in a sizzling neon T-shirt, tank, hoodie or swim trunks - or all four at once. Or, dazzle a dark suit with a super-intense neon necktie. There's something strangely energizing and ultra-cool about wearing neon.
- Straw fedora - In your great-grandfather's day, a man wasn't properly dressed if he didn't wear a hat on the street. Fortunately, things aren't that strict anymore, but a good hat still makes a guy look that much sharper. This summer, check out the straw fedora, especially in a stingy brim (the sales guy will know what you mean) which has a skinnier (2") brim than the traditional 3" fedora brim. If you really like how you look, you can spring for a felt version when the weather gets cooler. [search: men's hats]

I read that she was written off until contracts could be worked out, and they have been. Now they have to bring her back.
I am thinking Adam found her and is keeping her in the shed Patty stayed in. In some kind of way Patty will get blamed for it and not Adam.
I think there are too many plots unturned on the show lately. I think the viewers like quick resolve. Rather than hashing over lame story lines.
I am such a big fan of Y&R but lately it has been a sleeper. I take my nap during the show because it is boring. They drag out the inevitable for crazy number of weeks.
Would love for that stupid guy Adam to be found out. And go ahead and send Ashley to the funny farm already! She is annoying with her whiny selfish attitude. If you would hurry and tell her she has lost her baby, will have her break down and move into her new residence the insane asylum where she belongs.
I hope I don't sound like I am hating on you all, because this is really my favorite day time show! lol
Hi
Just want to say please don't stop this mag. its great when is the next issue comin out.Just tell the writters to put and end to the Deacon and Amber and Victoria thing and to put and end to Adam lies already. I hope Summer gets better and Lilly and Cain stay married at least have one more young people happy. Chance and Chole and the baby deserves to be happy too if Mac and Billy are goin to be happy then why not Chance and Chole. What happened to katherine and Max and Ester.
Does anyone know what has happened to poor Nikki? Or did she get run over and killed by that nutcase Ashley??????
Seriously, when will Adam be exposed? Ashley's storyline is really getting old. I like it so much better when she portrays a strong, independent type woman, not this blubbering, messed up, clingy thing shes turned into. I really don't understand why Nikki didn't go through with the marriage to Paul. Granted, she and Victor are kindred spirits, but he is married to someone else, and she had no problem marrying that scumbag David Chow, so why all of a sudden did she realize, oh my heart belongs to Victor, I can't marry you, Paul. Give me a break. Paul would be so good for her. Whatever, I'm glad to see Sharon finally being committed, that's long overdue, hopefully she'll get her act together and stop obsessing over Nick. Move on already. Sad storyline with Lily, but at least she has family and friends around that she can lean on. I really hope Mary Jane and Adam both get caught soon, those storylines are so boring. Get on with it.
ENOUGH ALREADY!! Where is Nikki? When is Adam going to be exposed for the scoundrel he is? When is Victor Newman going to wake up??? When is Ashley going to find out that there is no baby?? I want to see Victor and Nikki back together again.
